HomeCoursesPlantsNewsAbout UsGallery

Manea School of Gardening offers a range of gardening, horticultural and related courses for amateurs, those looking for a career change and those in industry requiring training and assessment in specific areas. The business seeks to fill a gap in the leisure, education and training network for land-based courses within the local area.

Our courses range from part-time day or evening courses through to one-day specialist events.

Whist many of our courses are ‘just for fun’….. we are accredited by the Royal Horticultural Society and are offering their courses and qualifications, which are, of course, internationally recognised. These include practical and theoretical courses at various levels which are excellent for anyone in the horticultural profession, or wishing to become involved in it.

RHS Level 2 Certificate in the Principles of Plant Growth, Propagation and Development

The Level 2 courses are intended for students with a keen interest in horticulture - either enthusiastic amateurs or people already working in the industry seeking a formal qualification. The theory qualifications provide a route to employment in professional horticulture by setting knowledge of the scientific principles underpinning horticultural practices and also support career development for those working in the profession.

Course content

The qualification is divided into four units:

  • Plant classification, structure, and function

  • Plant nutrition and the root environment

  • Maintaining plant health

  • Understanding plant propagation

Each unit is assessed by means of a written examination held at an approved centre. Manea School of Gardening is an approved centre for assessment for our own candidates and also for candidates who may have studied at other centres or through distance learning..

Examinations are offered twice a year in February and June. The two units do not have to be taken at the same sitting or even in the same year, allowing great flexibility of study. A certificate will be awarded to a candidate who passes all four units within a three year period.
